ABOUT US Chartered in
1936 as The OPTIMIST CLUB of
Columbia, Missouri [Downtown], this
club is an
affiliate of Optimist International, a world wide organization dedicated
to personal development through service to youth.
Membership
is comprised of people in business, industry, agriculture and the
professions.
A member fulfills his/her role by attending meetings, participating in
service projects, serving on Club committees, and by inviting others to
join in
improving the quality of life in mid-Missouri through the promises of the
Optimist
Creed.
Our
Purposes
-To inspire respect for law.
-To develop optimism as a philosophy of life.
-To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs.
-To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship
among all people.
-To aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the
giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well being of
mankind, his community, and the world.

Membership
Membership in the Club is open to
any adult. Dues are $70 annually, payable by October 1. Initiation is $15.
Dues are pro-rated for those joining earlier in the year. Life memberships
are available. Membership Application.
Clubhouse
The Downtown Optimist Clubhouse
is located at 1201 Grand Avenue, just off
Business Loop 70, one block west of the intersection of Stadium and Bus.

Management
Management of the Club resides
with the
Board of Directors. Board meetings
are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Clubhouse. The Club’s
operating year is from October 1 through September 30.
Meetings
The Club meets each Monday
(except Monday holidays) for lunch in Dulany Hall on the Columbia College
Campus. Meal options include a full buffet or salad bar only.
An
informative program follows each luncheon, with topics ranging from issues
of local interest to global projects.
Meetings conclude by 1:00 p.m.
Newsletter
The Club publishes a
BULLETIN for members and guests. Read
the current
BULLETIN.
Socials
Periodically the Club hosts
dinners or social events for members and their guests. These socials
provide fellowship for members and renew their dedication to serving the
youth of mid-Missouri.
Budget
The
Board sets the annual budget.
Funds are raised through dues, the sale of Christmas trees, selected gift
products, registration fees and services provided by members.
