Alexander - 91,
of Columbia died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center. Services
were held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob
Russell officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr.
Alexander was born July 19, 1910,
in Columbia to Edward Everett and Mary Isabella Riley Alexander. He
married Lillian Womack on June 17, 1934, in Jefferson City, and she
preceded him in death. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church
since 1927, where he was chairman of the board of deacons and of the
building fund committee. He graduated from University High School in
Columbia and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member
of the Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity and served as a counselor to the
fraternity after graduating. He was a member of the Downtown Columbia
Optimist Club and helped to establish their Christmas Tree program to
raise funds for Optimist Friend of the Youth projects. He and his brother
Jesse owned and operated Alexander Brothers Truck Farms from 1932-74. He
also owned two self-service laundromats and operated them with his son Ben
until last September. Survivors include two sons, Ben Alexander and Philip
Alexander, both of Columbia; a sister, Christine Zahm of Arizona City,
Ariz.; and two grandsons.

DALY
- John William Daly, 61,
of Columbia passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006, at his home. Services
will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Broadway Christian Church,
2601 W. Broadway. Mr.
Daly was born in Aruba, Dutch Caribbean, on June 27, 1945. He
came to Columbia in 1956 but never forgot his ties to the island of his
birth and greatly enjoyed attending reunions both in the U.S. and in
Aruba.
He
graduated from Hickman High School in 1963, attended the University of
Missouri-Columbia and was in the National Guard. Most
of his career was spent in the insurance industry. He was a member of
Broadway Christian Church and also the Downtown Optimist Club.
John is survived by one
sister, Maureen Daly of Columbia;
two nieces, Deborah Breese-Garelick of Scottsville, N.Y., and Susan
Pinkowski of Louisburg, Penn.; one nephew, Douglas Breese of Maplewood;
and four great-nieces.
He was a
loving brother, uncle and friend. He
cared deeply about his church and community.
FARQUHAR
- Chuck Farquhar
Charles
"Chuck" Farquhar, 68, of Columbia passed away Friday, Oct. 27,
2006, at University Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 30, at Memorial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Phillips
officiating. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.
He was born May 17, 1938, the son of William Edward and Hattie Kaminski
Farquhar in Burlington, Iowa. On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Virginia
Volmert in Kansas City. Charles was a member of the Downtown Optimist
Club, Eagles Club, and M.V.A.C.A.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved duck hunting, fishing and
golf. Chuck was a corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to
1959. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of Columbia; two daughters,
Dawn Farquhar of Denver and Dana Farquhar of Columbia; one brother, Jon
Farquhar and his wife, Carol, of Lomax, Ill.; and two nieces, Amy Johnson
and Robin Francisco. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial, contributions may be made to the
Farquhar family in Chuck’s memory for the purchase of a memorial tree
and park bench, in care of Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70
W., Columbia, Mo., 65202.
FUNK - Dennis Edward
Funk , 70, of Columbia
passed away Sept. 23, 2006, at Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital.
Mr. Funk was born Feb 4, 1936,
in Rushville, Ill., to Cecil and Marjorie Funk. He married Phyllis
Lancaster on Nov. 4, 1961.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew Funk and
Robert Funk; a brother, Cecil Funk; two sisters, Joanne Spain and Cecilia
Johnson; and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements
are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service and Crematory.
GOEBEL
- Karl
E. Goebel,
92, of Columbia passed away at his home on July 27, 2006. Services
will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Broadway Christian Church.
Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home.
Karl was
born on April 27, 1914, in Moberly to Otto and Elisa Eisenhauer Goebel,
and they preceded him in death. On Dec. 19, 1943, he married Iris Lubben
of Golden, Ill., in San Diego, and she survives. Karl attended a Chicago
school for the then fairly new field of refrigeration in 1937 through
1939. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, achieving the
rank of master tech sergeant. While stationed at Camp Miramar, he was
instrumental in implementing a refrigeration mechanics school. Columbia
became his and Iris’s home after the war. Karl spent his entire career
in the refrigeration field working for only two firms, Phillips & Co.
and Hulett Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of the Plumbers
and Pipefitters Union and RSES.
Karl was a
member of the Downtown Optimist club, where he was very active and enjoyed
working at the Christmas tree lot. Karl was always a member of a church,
the last 20 years at Broadway Christian Church.
He is also
survived by his son, Bruce and wife Shari of Columbia; daughter Karla Huck
and husband Randy of Columbia; grandchildren Sara Goebel of Columbia,
Brandon Huck of Columbia, and Mindy Huck Harvat and husband Christian of
Nutley, N.J.; and cousin Carl Eisenhauer of Moberly.
He was
also preceded in death by a brother, John Goebel and wife Mabel.

Alan Greenspon,
53, died June 23, 2003, at his home. Services
were Wednesday, June 25, at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N.
Tenth St., with David Davis officiating, with burial in Columbia
Cemetery. Visitation included a
Scottish Rite Rose Croix Service at 7:30 p.m. Mr.
Greenspon was born July 30, 1949, in Columbia, to Leonard and Inez Zerman
Greenspon. He married Anne Mack on June 1, 1997,
in Columbia, and she survives.
He lived his entire life in Columbia, graduating from University High
School in 1967 and receiving a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the
University of Missouri in 1971. He was the former owner of Greenspon’s Department Store. He was a
Realtor with GRI, MRF & ABR for Remax Boone Realty of Columbia. He was
a member of Twilight Lodge No. 114 AF & AM and Scottish Rite Valley of
Columbia and was a Mason. He was a member of the Tiger Shrine Club, the
Downtown Optimist club and many other civic and community organizations in
Columbia.
Survivors also include his mother, Inez Greenspon of Columbia; a stepson,
Mark Kordick of Greenwich, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Anne Piedade of Bedford,
N.Y.; a sister, Martha Finkle of Manchester; and two grandchildren. His
father preceded him in death. Memorials are
suggested to the Robert G. Combs Speech Communications Clinic in care of
Scottish Rite, 33 Masonic Drive, Columbia, Mo., 65202.

J. Helm, 81, of
Columbia passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Boone Hospital Center. Services were at 3 p.m. Feb. 1 at Memorial
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Brandenburg officiating. Mr.
Helm was born Dec. 5, 1922, to George and Anna Pelot Helm. He married
Lucille P. Mitchell on April 5, 1942, in Union, and she survives.
He served with the 467th
Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II and fought in the
Battle of the Bulge. He obtained the rank of corporal. He was awarded a
Purple Heart.
He was an insurance agent with
State Farm Insurance until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of
United Church of Christ and Downtown Optimist Club.
Survivors also include two
daughters, Nancy Taylor of Auxvasse and Beverly Sumptner of Caledonia;
four siblings, Jeanette Strubberg, Fred Helm, Frank Helm and Frances
Witthaus, all of Washington, Mo.; four grandchildren, Yvette McNellis of
Columbia, Stacy Stephens of Iowa City, Iowa, and Hanna and Heather
Wachtman of Caledonia; and three great-grandchildren, Summer McNellis,
Jack McNellis and Connor Stephens. He was preceded in death by his
parents and a daughter, Rebecca Sue Helm.
HYATT

Hyatt - 76,
died Feb. 20, 2001, in Fort Myers, Fla. Services were Feb. 25, Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia. Mr.
Hyatt was born May 23, 1924, in Fayette to Earl Brooks and Frances
Armstrong Hyatt. He married Mary Pipal in 1953, in Eldon. Mr.
Hyatt graduated from Fayette High School in 1943, joined the Navy and
served 3 years during World War II, mostly in the Pacific. In 1949, he
graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he
attended on a basketball scholarship. He coached high school basketball at
Warsaw and Eldon before entering the insurance business with State Farm
Insurance in 1954. He later moved to Jefferson City where he became a
manager for State Farm. Mr. Hyatt belonged to Missouri Life Underwriters,
the Downtown Optimist Club, the Missouri United Methodist Church, the
Chamber of Commerce, The Boone County Citizens for Good Government and
Tiger Quarterback Club and was a volunteer for Missouri State High School
Basketball Tour and Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. John was a member
of the Downtown Optimist Club for more than 20 years.
PEAK

Peak - 95, of Columbia
died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Ashland Healthcare Inc. in Ashland.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, First Christian Church
with the Rev. John Yonker officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park
Cemetery. Mr. Peak was born July 31, 1905, in Boone County to John
Henry and Laura Barton Davis Peak . He married Blanche Payne on Nov.
17, 1967, in Columbia, and she survives. He graduated from the University
of Missouri-Columbia in 1927. He was the owner of George W. Peak Agency
from 1928-80. He was the first secretary for the Missouri State Real
Estate Association and was president of Columbia Board of Realtors in 1946
and 1956. He was also a member of the board of trustees for First National
Bank, secretary/treasurer of the board for the Missouri School of Religion
and a member of the Downtown Optimist Club since 1942. He had been a
member and elder of First Christian Church since 1919. Survivors also
include two sons, Gordon Kingsley of Lee’s Summit and John Kingsley of
Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Sheryl Kramer of Alton, Ill., and Marilyn
Stearns of Raytown; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by a son and a sister.
