PROGRAM: Tom Marrero introduced the speaker today. Marty Walker is the Director of Administrative Services at the College of Engineering. Marty had a two-point presentation today; the first focused on the renovation/construction projects at the College of Engineering. Marty gave an overview of the history of the buildings and how they will be improved in the coming months and ultimately what they will be used for once they are completed. A portion of the buildings will be used by the Geospatial Intelligence Center. Geospatial Intelligence is integration of multiple forms of data collected from satellite or airborne sensors along with a wide variety of other digital geographic information. In simple terms a satellite will take a picture of an area then compare that picture with a picture of the same exact area taken at a later time to check for anything that has changed. For more info go to: http://geoint.missouri.edu/
The second portion of Marty’s presentation focused on Toys for Tots. Most of us have heard of Toys for Tots but now we know all about the program and how we can help. Toys for Tots was started by Marine Col. Bill Hendricks in 1947as a way to help provide toys for children in need at Christmas time. In 1948 the United States Marine Corps Reserves adopted the program. In 1991 the Toys for Tots Foundation was founded and has since raised over 56 million dollars to further the Toys for Tots mission. Locally the Marine Corps League has joined the mission and asks for your help. The league needs help with collection boxes, if you can put a toy collection box in your office or work place or if you have or know of a warehouse that could be used for a couple weeks in the fall for a sorting facility that would be most appreciated. Please contact: the Marine Corps League at (573) 446-5196 or email us at Toys For Tots
or by mail at P.O. Box 1371, Columbia, MO 65205-1371.
