Bo Bossaller rang the bell at 12:15 pm. Pat Brown gave the Invocation. Jess Weaver led the Pledge of Allegiance. Our greeter today was Brandon Beddoe. More than 56 attended.

TAIL TWISTER
 
Steve Henderson levied fines against Bo Bossaller and Rick McKernan for not having their name badges. Also this Wed November 1st Steve will be competing in the Columbia Jaycee’s Chef’s Chili Challenge, this is a benefit for the Central Missouri Food bank. Steve will be representing the Down Town Optimist Club. We can show our support by purchasing a ticket to attend AND showing up and voting for Steve’s Chili. The winner gets $250 for his or her club. Tickets can be purchased at Schnucks or online at www.mobeef.org. The Chili Challenge will be at Stephens College Wed. Nov. 1st in the Lela Raney Wood Hall. From 5-8pm. Please come and support Steve and your DownTown Optimist Club.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A sad note today Chuck Farquhar has passed away.
The vote concerning the Club’s 501C3 designation will be held this coming Monday the 6th of November at the regular lunch meeting.
The Oratorical Contest is coming up, anyone who would like to help is encouraged to contact Meredith Donaldson.

Birthdays and Anniversaries: Dotty did not have her list today and therefore was unable to recognize those members who had birthdays or anniversaries. Dotty assured everyone that it won’t happen again but if it does she will do 10 pushups for everyone who has a birthday or anniversary next week.

PROGRAM

Jim Yankee introduced today’s speaker, Columbia City Council Member Laura Nauser who represents the 5th Ward. Council Representative Nauser spoke about many of the goings on in Columbia. Several questions centered around road expansion , land acquisition for such expansion and funding for both. 
Council Rep. Nauser also pointed out the City’s financial standing as being more than solid. The city has only increased spending by 9% while experiencing a 15% increase in revenue.

TAIL TWISTER: Steve asked what kind of coffee was served on the titanic. It was Sanka. Our greeter Kristen Held does not feel coffee is something to joke about.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The proposed changes to the club’s constitution are still pending and will require just one more vote. Steve Klein is diligently working with an attorney and will have the matter wrapped up in the near future. Great work Steve!!

GREETER: Kristen Held was the greeter she is from St. Louis and she opened the Starbucks down town. Coincidently Kristen has worked with Lisa Eimers at Big Brothers and Big Sisters. 

PROGRAM: Lynn Wobig from the “Safe Kids Coalition” spoke about the many programs they sponsor and coordinate. Lynn spoke in depth about all of the risks that kids are exposed to today simply because of their parents lack education concerning kids safety. A few of the programs are: Safe Kids Buckle Up, Bike and Pedestrian Safety, Fire and Burn Safety and Water Safety just to name a few. Lynn also mentioned the support that they receive from clubs such as ours as being a big help.
