PROGRAM: GENEVA POWELL SHOW ME STATE GAMES

Geneva Powell, Director of Volunteers for the SHSG, began her presentation with a trivia contest followed by a video. We learned that the games are the largest state games in America and that our state games are 20 years old. The first Games had only 600 participants, now Missouri hosts nearly 40,000 participants every summer. The largest activity is soccer. There are 397 soccer teams that compete. It is very important to have plenty of Volunteers. (The Downtown Optimist club focuses their efforts to assist with the Soccer games) Throughout the games there are 1,400 volunteer positions to fill. During a Sport Illustrated review of the Show-Me State Games the writers were very impresses, say that they are the most organized athletic event they have witnessed. Geneva congratulated the DOC and other volunteers for helping them achieve such smooth events.

It was noted that the DOC board approved a $1,000 donation to the SMSG.
